Until August (Posthumous) First Edition Reference
En agosto nos vemos (Random House, 2024; English: Alfred A. Knopf, 2024, translated by Anne McLean) is García Márquez’s posthumous novel, published against his stated wishes by his sons. García Márquez, suffering from dementia in his final years, had declared the manuscript unfinished and asked that it be destroyed. The novel follows Ana Magdalena Bach, who travels to a Caribbean island each August to visit her mother’s grave and takes a different lover each year.

The publication of Until August against García Márquez’s wishes has generated critical debate about posthumous publication ethics. The book is a collectible document of that debate as much as a literary work.
