The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1984) Signed First Edition Reference

L’insoutenable légèreté de l’être (Gallimard, Paris, 1984; English: Harper & Row, 1984) is the novel that made Kundera an international literary celebrity. Set during the Prague Spring and its aftermath, the novel follows two couples — Tomáš and Tereza, Franz and Sabina — through philosophical meditations on Nietzsche’s eternal return, the weight of historical choice, and the relationship between body and soul. Philip Kaufman’s 1988 film adaptation further expanded its audience.
