Too Loud a Solitude Signed First Edition Reference

Příliš hlučná samota (written 1976, published 1990 in a samizdat edition; English: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1990) is the book about books — Haňťa has spent thirty-five years operating a hydraulic press that compacts waste paper, and for thirty-five years he has been rescuing books from the crusher, reading them, and building a personal library in his cellar. The novella is a love letter to reading, a meditation on the violence of cultural destruction, and one of the most moving books ever written about books.
