This Immortal (1966) Signed First Edition Reference

This Immortal shared the 1966 Hugo Award for Best Novel with Frank Herbert’s Dune — a tie that places Zelazny’s compact, mythologically rich novel alongside one of the genre’s most beloved works. Originally published as a serial in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction under the title ”…And Call Me Conrad,” the novel was expanded and published by Ace Books in 1966.

First Edition Identification

Publisher: Ace Books (F-393), New York Publication date: 1966 Format: Mass market paperback (Ace original)

The Ace paperback is the true first edition. No hardcover first edition exists from the original publication.

Signed Copy Market Values

  • Signed Ace paperback, very good: $100–$300
  • Unsigned Ace paperback: $15–$40

As an Ace paperback original, condition is the primary challenge. Mass market paperbacks from 1966 were printed on cheap paper and bound with glue that deteriorates. Finding a clean, tight, unfaded copy is difficult; finding one signed is a genuine coup.
