Soldier of Arete (1989) Signed First Edition Reference
Soldier of Arete continues Latro’s journey through the ancient world, published in 1989. The novel finds Latro traveling northward, encountering new peoples and new gods. Wolfe’s method of rendering Greek place names through Latin equivalents continues to defamiliarize the ancient world, and Latro’s amnesia continues to generate narrative complexity — the reader knows more than the narrator, yet can never be certain how much of Latro’s scroll is accurate.
