Solar Lottery (1955) Signed First Edition Reference
Solar Lottery was Philip K. Dick’s first published novel, appearing as an Ace Double (D-103) in 1955, paired with Leigh Brackett’s The Big Jump. Set in a future where the leader of the solar system is chosen by lottery and anyone can attempt to assassinate the new leader, the novel introduces many of Dick’s career-long preoccupations — the instability of power, the arbitrariness of social systems, and ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances.

Signed Copy Market Values
- Signed Ace Double, fine: $2,000–$5,000+
- Unsigned Ace Double, fine: $200–$500
As Dick’s debut novel in the difficult-to-preserve Ace Double format, signed copies are extremely rare. Any “signed” copy should be subjected to rigorous authentication given the severe PKD forgery problem. The Ace Double format means that condition is almost always an issue — sixty-plus-year-old paperbacks in fine condition are inherently scarce.
