Savages (2010) Signed First Edition Reference
Savages was published by Simon & Schuster in 2010. Two young marijuana entrepreneurs in Laguna Beach, California, attract the attention of the Baja Cartel when they refuse to enter a partnership. The cartel kidnaps their shared girlfriend, and the two men launch a private war to get her back. The novel’s style is fragmentary and cinematic — short chapters, staccato sentences, screenplay-like dialogue — and the violence is extreme even by Winslow’s standards.
The Book
Oliver Stone adapted Savages into a 2012 film starring Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Blake Lively, with a screenplay co-written by Winslow. The film brought Winslow to a mainstream audience beyond the crime fiction world.
