Ron Chernow Signed Firsts: A Reference

Ron Chernow (born 1949) is the American biographer whose meticulously researched, richly narrative lives of historical figures — Hamilton, Washington, Grant, Rockefeller — have made him the most commercially successful serious biographer of his generation. His Alexander Hamilton (2004) became the unlikely source material for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical Hamilton, transforming both Chernow’s career and the market for his signed first editions.

Key Titles and Values

  • Hamilton (Penguin Press, 2004): $200–$500 signed (musical premium)
  • Titan (Random House, 1998): $50–$125 signed
  • Washington (Penguin Press, 2010): $40–$100 signed
  • Grant (Penguin Press, 2017): $30–$75 signed

Chernow signs regularly, but Hamilton firsts carry a significant premium driven by the musical’s fame.
