The Reacher Series First Editions Reference

The Jack Reacher series spans over twenty-five novels, published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons in the US from 1997 to the present. The series’ commercial success means that first editions of later titles were printed in large quantities, while early titles — particularly the first five — had more modest printings and are now the most sought-after.

Series Value Trajectory

The Reacher series follows a classic debut-premium pattern: the first novel (Killing Floor) commands the highest values, the early titles (books 2–5) are moderately valued, and the mid-to-late series titles are affordable and abundant.

High-Value Titles (Books 1–5)

  • Killing Floor (1997): $500–$2,000 signed
  • Die Trying (1998): $100–$300 signed
  • Tripwire (1999): $75–$200 signed
  • Running Blind / The Visitor (2000): $50–$150 signed
  • Echo Burning (2001): $40–$120 signed

Mid-Range Titles (Books 6–15)

Generally $20–$80 signed, with some variation by title and condition.

Later Titles (Books 16+)

Generally $15–$50 signed, readily available from book tours and signing events.

The Andrew Child Transition

Lee Child’s brother Andrew Child (writing as Andrew Child or as “Lee Child & Andrew Child”) began co-authoring Reacher novels with The Sentinel (2020) and has continued as sole author. These continuation novels are collected by series completists but command lower values than the Lee Child solo titles.

Collecting Strategy

Focus on acquiring Killing Floor first — it’s the most expensive and will likely continue to appreciate. Build out the early series (books 2–10) next, then fill in the later titles at leisure. A complete signed set of all Lee Child solo Reacher novels is a significant but achievable collecting project.
