Pornografia Signed First Edition Reference
Pornografia (Instytut Literacki, Paris, 1960; English: Calder & Boyars, 1966) is set during the German occupation of Poland. Two older intellectuals, visiting the countryside, become obsessed with orchestrating a sexual relationship between two young people — the “pornography” of the title being not sexuality but the aestheticized manipulation of youth by age. The novel is disturbing, formally brilliant, and philosophically dense.

The most controversial Gombrowicz novel — its exploration of the power dynamics between age and youth, observer and observed, remains genuinely uncomfortable.
