Mariana Enríquez Signed Firsts: A Reference
Mariana Enríquez (born 1973) is the Argentine writer who has done more than anyone to legitimize horror as a serious literary form in Latin American fiction. Her short story collections — Things We Lost in the Fire (2016) and The Dangers of Smoking in Bed (2020) — combine the social violence of contemporary Argentina with genuine supernatural terror, drawing on folk traditions, political disappearance, and urban decay. Her novel Our Share of Night (2022) won the International Booker Prize and established her as one of the most important Latin American writers of her generation.
