Lee Child Signed Firsts: A Reference
Lee Child (born Jim Grant, 1954) created Jack Reacher — the six-foot-five, 250-pound ex-military policeman who wanders America with nothing but a toothbrush, righting wrongs and dispensing violent justice. Since Killing Floor debuted in 1997, the Reacher series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, making it one of the most commercially successful thriller franchises in publishing history.
Child as Collector’s Subject
Child has been an enthusiastic signer throughout his career. He appears at bookstores, thriller conventions (particularly ThrillerFest), and literary events. Signed copies of most Reacher titles are readily available. The critical exception is Killing Floor — his debut, published in a modest first printing before anyone knew Reacher would become a phenomenon.
The UK editions deserve attention: Child (a British writer living in America) was published in the UK by Bantam, and some collectors prefer the UK first editions. The US editions are published by Putnam.
