Larry Niven Signed Firsts: A Reference

Larry Niven (born 1938) is one of the premier hard science fiction writers, best known for Ringworld (1970) and his Known Space future history. His collaborations with Jerry Pournelle — particularly The Mote in God’s Eye (1974), Lucifer’s Hammer (1977), and Footfall (1985) — were major bestsellers.

Key Titles

  • Ringworld (1970) — Ballantine first. Hugo and Nebula winner. Signed firsts: $200–$600.
  • The Mote in God’s Eye (1974) — Simon & Schuster (with Pournelle). Signed firsts: $100–$300.
  • Lucifer’s Hammer (1977) — Playboy Press (with Pournelle). Signed firsts: $75–$200.
  • Footfall (1985) — Del Rey (with Pournelle). Signed firsts: $30–$75.
  • A World Out of Time (1976) — Holt. Signed firsts: $30–$75.

Niven has been a generous signer throughout his career. Signed copies of most titles are available at reasonable prices. The premium attaches primarily to Ringworld and the dual-signed collaborations with Pournelle.
