Green Sun (2018) Signed First Edition Reference
Green Sun appeared in 2018, twenty-two years after Night Dogs. The novel follows Hanson to Oakland, California, in the early 1980s, where he works as a police officer in a city riven by crack cocaine, gang violence, and racial tension. Anderson, who actually served as an Oakland police officer during this period, brings the same autobiographical authority that defined his earlier novels.
The Book
The twenty-two-year wait created enormous expectations among Anderson’s cult readership, and Green Sun largely met them. The Oakland setting is darker and more dangerous than the Portland of Night Dogs, and Hanson is older, more worn down, but still holding onto his moral compass. The novel completes a loose trilogy that traces Hanson — and Anderson — from Vietnam through two decades of American policing.

The most available of Anderson’s novels in signed state, as it was published during the era of modern book-tour infrastructure. Still, Anderson is not a high-profile signer, and copies are scarcer than for comparably positioned crime fiction authors.
