Day of the Oprichnik Signed First Edition Reference

Den’ oprichnika (Zakharov, Moscow, 2006; English: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2011) describes a single day in the life of Andrei Komiaga, a member of the oprichnina — the political police of a future Russian autocracy that has rebuilt the Great Wall of China along its borders and returned to medieval methods of governance. Written in 2006, the novel’s vision of an authoritarian, isolationist Russia has become disturbingly prescient.
