Conversation in the Cathedral (1969) Signed First Edition Reference

Conversación en La Catedral (Seix Barral, 1969; English: Harper & Row, 1975, translated by Gregory Rabassa) is Vargas Llosa’s most ambitious novel — a bar conversation between Santiago Zavala and Ambrosio that expands to encompass the entire history of the Odría dictatorship in Peru. The novel’s famous opening line — “At what precise moment had Peru fucked itself up?” — encapsulates its political scope.
