Childhood's End (1953) Signed First Edition Reference
Childhood’s End is Clarke’s finest novel. Published by Ballantine Books in the US in 1953, it depicts the arrival of the Overlords — benevolent alien beings who impose peace on Earth, end war, and eliminate suffering. But their ultimate purpose is to serve as midwives to humanity’s children, who are evolving beyond human form into a cosmic overmind. The adults — including the Overlords — are left behind.
