Brian Panowich Signed Firsts: A Reference

Brian Panowich is a Georgia firefighter turned crime novelist whose debut Bull Mountain (2015) announced a major new voice in Southern noir. The novel — and its sequels Like Lions (2019) and Hard Cash Valley (2020) — are set in the mountains of North Georgia, following the Burroughs family (no relation to the Beat writer) through generations of moonshining, drug trafficking, and the violent code of mountain justice.

Panowich as Collector’s Subject

Panowich’s biography — active-duty firefighter who writes crime fiction from direct experience of violence and community — gives his work a blue-collar authenticity that readers and collectors value. His bibliography is compact (three novels), and he signs at crime fiction conventions and bookstore events.

His debut Bull Mountain won the International Thriller Writers Award for Best First Novel, generating significant attention from both crime fiction readers and literary collectors.

  1. Bull Mountain (2015) — Debut, ITW Best First Novel winner
