Batman: Year One appeared in Batman #404–407 (February–May 1987), written by Miller with art by David Mazzucchelli. The four-issue story arc retells Batman’s first year in Gotham City, paralleling Bruce Wayne’s return to crime-fighting with Jim Gordon’s arrival as a new police lieutenant in a corrupt city.
