Balkan Ghosts Signed First Edition Reference

Balkan Ghosts: A Journey Through History (St. Martin’s Press, 1993) is Kaplan’s travel narrative through the former Yugoslavia, Greece, and Romania — a book that argues the region’s conflicts are rooted in centuries of ethnic and religious hatred. The book became notorious when it was reported that President Clinton read it during the Bosnian War and was discouraged from intervention by its pessimistic framing. Whether or not this account is accurate, Balkan Ghosts became one of the most politically consequential travel books of the 1990s.
