Blood Meridian, First Edition — Signed by Cormac McCarthy

First edition, first printing of Blood Meridian (Random House, 1985), signed by Cormac McCarthy on the title page in black ink. The signature is consistent with McCarthy’s mid-1980s hand — the compressed “C McC” form with trailing underline.

The dust jacket is in near-fine condition with only minimal wear at the corners. The cloth boards are bright and unmarked. The spine lettering is unfaded.

Significance

McCarthy signed relatively few copies of his earlier novels. By the time Blood Meridian achieved its present reputation — beginning in the mid-1990s with Harold Bloom’s championing — McCarthy had already become reclusive and was signing only at private events. This is one of fewer than thirty signed copies of the first edition that we have documented.
