A short life of the author
David Powlison (1949–2019) was an American Christian counsellor and theologian who served as executive director of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation (CCEF) and taught at Westminster Theological Seminary. He was one of the most influential figures in the biblical counselling movement — an approach that seeks to address psychological and relational problems primarily through biblical wisdom and pastoral care rather than secular therapeutic frameworks.
Major Works
Speaking Truth in Love: Counsel in Community (2005, New Growth Press) articulates his vision of Christian counselling as a communal, grace-centred practice.
Seeing with New Eyes: Counseling and the Human Condition Through the Lens of Scripture (2003) and other works develop his theological framework for pastoral care.
